Dr. Leno Jaxon 1939 - 2005
|
This impromptu filming came about after visiting Cass Tech with Dr. Jaxon and Hubert Massey during the demolition of the building. We sat in the cafeteria, viewed and spoke about the painting his long time friend donated to Cass entitled "Renaissance City". Dr. Jaxon was an image in the painting as a young boy. In 1990, towards the end of Foster’s life, Dr. Jaxon organized a showing of his work at American Black Artists, Inc. Dr. Jaxon and I met a few times prior to his passing as he discussed with me wanting to arrange a showcase of Leroys works at the Charles Wright Museum which never happened. Leroys collection valued at the time at 8 million dollars was donated to the Museum but has never exhibited there. The Renaissance City painting has not been seen since the demolition of Cass Tech. Dr. Jaxon gives his views on the meaning of the painting as to what he felt Leroy had in mind when painting it and how Leroy felt about the city of Detroit. Oral histories and artist documentary footage in visual arts, music, rap, dance ,social justice and human rights and more. All film, video, photographs and audio clips listed were filmed, photographed, recorded and or taped by me. - Brian Heath
